IT'S RAIIIIININ' MEN

hey hi i haven't posted in a while. I've been thinking!

There's been a lot of backlash from the So You Think You Can Dance episode last night. Which starts at 5:10 in this clip, for anyone who didn't see it, who might be interested. Long story short, two men auditioned with a ballroom dance on the show - together, in sparkly, low-cut, tight-pants'd outfits, mind you. Naturally, that's not the norm. Obviously it could happen, but, typically, ballroom is one guy and one girl. There is a leader and a follower. That's just how it rolls.

People don't seem to agree. A lot of people have been accusing the show of prejudice, homophobia, etc. AfterElton.com had an article in particular that stuck out.

I keep going back and forth on this, just because I've got arguments towards either side. There's the one hand where, yes, the judges - Nigel in particular - were coming off as very unreasonable, not at all understanding. Nigel's a bit too old-fashioned, I think - he shows it often in his judging, but he's an old Brit; of course he's going to be old-fashioned. That doesn't work with the constantly changing dance world. Especially in the US, where, well, stereotypically, guy dancers (save for the hip-hop dancers, the lockers, the breakers, etc.) arrre pretty gay.

On the other hand, the guys weren't that good. Their movements were off, their chemistry was cheesy, the dance was a bit cheesy as well. The costumes threw you off. I get what they were going for, absolutely, and I love that they were two gay men dancing together. It's just... with ballroom, typical ballroom, there IS a leader and a follower. I think there could absolutely be males partnering, or females partnering, but you have to have some kind of focus. Someone SHOULD be leading the other person, or else it's back and forth, it's confusing, it generally ends up sloppy.

I don't think it's about a male being in charge, or effeminate people, because the show's broken those boundaries before. There was a Broadway dance to I'm A Woman from Smoky Joe's Cafe (that a gay man choreographed, mind you), where the guy - while still manly! - was very dominated by the woman in it. Or the Garden dance that's gone down with a bit of notoriety on the show. The West Coast Swing dance that Benji Schwimmer choreographed had a girl throwing a guy into a few moves where she was DEFINITELY taking the lead, which added nice touches! But the guy was overall the leader; again, some kind of focus.

I dunno. I think it's boiling down to something that it shouldn't be. It should be about the dancing, not who's doing it, and it's ending up looking like some kind of prejudiced business, which I don't think it should be. As someone who's very involved in gay rights issues, with gay and lesbian friends, who's unsure on her sexuality herself, I'm obviously very sympathetic towards the guys! But I also think Nigel and Mary were right, about the leader and follower business, that it was too effeminate.

And also aaaanyway, end rant, sorry for that >>; I've been thinking about this a lot, ever since since what exploded up from it. I'm such a SYTYCD addict, I can't help myself :DDD:

Anyone else see it? What do you think?

Well, what do you know? Old So and So :/

Okay. Trying to decide what to cosplay as, for Anime Boston? Is one of the most nerve-wracking things ever XD

I don't care if it's lame, man, I can't decide! I have so many ideas!

Okay, so one thing I'm wondering, cruising about the net, and hurr, apologies for the multiple posts within the hour. I'm waiting for dishes to soak. Bear with me.

So, anyway, the wondering thing.

Where the fuck are all the Entourage fans?

Seriously! They just do NOT exist on the net! I thought this show was pretty damn hot, on HBO and everything, and there are, like, two fans online. If that. This is worrisome!

Has anyone here even heard of it?

So! Totally copied from my bucko, [info]haiirochou. Butttt basically, I want to try to watch 100 new movies this year, and read 25 new books. Let's see the progress I have made so far!

MOVIES

1) The Prestige
2) Tank Girl
3) Final Fantasy: Advent Children
4) Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
5) Super Troopers
6) Wall-E
7) Prophecy
8) Shortbus

...Okay, not very far.
HOW ABOUT BOOKS?

BOOKS

1) Book one in the Death Note manga
2) ...That's about it.

dammit XD

So, I've been thinking a lot about body mods lately.

As we all know, I'm pretty... nuts. Like, I can't sit still for twenty seconds on a regular occasion. I need to change things up quite a lot. It's why I talk a million miles a minute, listen to more types of music than one single person should be allowed, and I have a different haircut every two months.

I'm trying to branch out more. Hair coloring, piercings, etc. It's stuff I've always wanted to dabble in, but I hadn't been old enough to do so legally yet. And I'm far too much of a pussy to do my own tattoos or piercings. A: ew, sanitation, and B: they would probably come out like shit, and I don't want something shitty that I have to look at on my body for the rest of my life. I've pierced my own ears before, but further than that, I won't try.

SO, I've spent a lot googling what I love, what I hate, gathering ideas until I can find things I'm really, incredibly satisfied with. And here's some of it, yay!

Underneath the cuts is pretty image heavy. Dial-up users be warned!

First of all, for those who don't know what I look like and want to give some constructive criticism as to what you think would look good on me, what experiences you've had with certain things insofar as body modification, this is what I look like.

Anyway, onto the ideas!

I am incredibly repetitive.

...

But I wish I was doing something tonight XD

Hopefully my hair dye comes in the mail, so I have SOMETHING to entertain myself.
But I doubt it. Because it was just in Chelmsford, MA around 10 this morning.
According to package tracking.

Otherwise, I just got the 95.5 top songs of 2008 on BRU.
Which will probably suck because BRU has been pretty faily as of late.

Eh.

I'll figure out something.

Even if my 'something' is usually playing computer Tetris.

So... I finally finished watching Death Note.

It's weird that this show took me forever to get through, when I blew through Full Metal Alchemist in a week. When FMA is twice the length of DN.

Maybe it's because I'm not so sure I liked from episode 25 to the end of Death Note.

Major spoilers under here, y'all. )

OKAY.

So, I know I mentioned this in passing in another LJ entry, but I figured I'd make this an official word out there, to see who's up for things.

The plan is to gather together a group of people and see The Dark Knight the cool way. LOL THE IMAX EXPERIENCE.

Reply here if you're interested, times that are good for you, days you can't do, whatever. I was thinking of getting this done before school started, so anything pre-that should be good.

If you've seen it before or even if you haven't, I highly recommend trying to go to this - this movie is seriously, seriously awesome.

GOOD LUCK, SOLDIERS.

HOLY MOLY RAVIOLI.

How long has it been since I've updated this thing?

Too long, you say?

Why yes! It has been.

So much to say. How to sum it up...?

I can make funny. My brain is stupid. I like math.

The end!

Okay, no, there's a lot more than that, and some involving me having no life and stalking many a TV shows - srsly, I got one, like, every day up in here, I'm crazeh. Heroes on Monday, Bones and House on Tuesday, America's Next Top Model (and occasionally Gossip Girl >>) on Wednesday, Ugly Betty and Supernatural on Thursday... ¡Ay Jesu!

I have recently rediscovered my love for Algebra. And my hate for this English class. Also, DRImprov is a thing of uhhhhsomeness.

My brain is still st00pit.

The Across the Universe soundtrack is something of amaaaaazing. I cannot stop listening.
